Can I change my Ably account owner?

Yes, the process to change the account owner for an account is as follows:

Caution: If the Ably account in question has 2FA enabled, the Ably account owner needs to have this enabled for their profile before we receive the request to make them the owner. Please see our documentation on how to enable 2FA.

  1. Ensure the new account owner is an admin of your account. If you are not sure how to do this, please follow the instructions to invite new users to your account and ensure they are set up as an admin. Find out the difference between user roles.
  2. The current account owner of your account must email support@ably.com with a request to change the account ownership to an existing admin on your account.
  3. You will receive a reply email to the current owners email address from support@ably.com requesting confirmation of your intention to change ownership.  Please reply confirming your intention. This step is necessary to ensure the requester is actually the owner of the account owner email address.
  4. We will transfer ownership for you and notify you of this change.
