Can I change my Ably account owner?
Yes. You can transfer account ownership directly from the Ably dashboard, or contact support if the current owner is unavailable:
Caution: If 2FA enforced on the Ably account, the new owner must enable 2FA on their profile before they can be selected as the new account owner. For instructions, see our documentation on enabling 2FA.
- Ensure the new account owner is an admin on your account. If you are not sure how to do this, please follow the instructions to invite new users to your account and ensure they are set up as an admin. The invited user must then accept the invitation and create their Ably user account.
- The current account owner should then go to the Account Settings and, in the Danger Zone section, click Transfer ownership and select the new owner.
Note: When you click Transfer ownership, the dashboard will ask you to re-enter your Ably account password to confirm your identity. If you log in via Google or GitHub and don't have a password set, you'll need to create one first: click your avatar → Profile settings, then under Password click "Change your password" and save.
If the current owner is unavailable
If you no longer have access to the current owner's email and they can't perform the transfer themselves, contact support@ably.com and we will work with you to verify account ownership and process the transfer.
