Migrating to Ably from an existing service
Does the Ably service work in China?
The short answer is yes, but with some caveats.
At present, our customers use the Ably platform to serve customers globally, including China, without any current known issues in any territories. This is made possible with our global Ably network with more than 350 network PoPs geographically distributed around the globe.
The reason we say yes, but with caveats, is because China operates a firewall nationally that can without notice block access to foreign websites and services. As a result, whilst we are not aware of any blocks in place to our services, we cannot rule out China making changes to their firewall that could potentially impact services we provide.
Fortunately, at present we are confident that using Ably from within China works, and we will continue to monitor the situation.
