How do I verify my account via email?

Ably is committed to providing a safe and secure experience when using our platform. As part of this commitment, we have implemented a new process to verify all email addresses used with the service. The next time you log in, you will see a banner at the top of the page prompting you to verify your email address. Verifying your email address involves generating an email from Ably that’s sent to your email address. Click on the link in that message to verify the email address; the link expires after 24 hours. 

How do I verify my email address if I authenticate to Ably through a social media account (Twitter, Github, Google)?

If you use the same email address for both your social account and Ably, Ably will not require you to verify your email.

If you have changed your email address on your social media account, log in to the social provider and successfully verify your email address there. From there, you can initiate Ably registration. If you choose to change the email provided by the social service during this step, or if no email is provided at all, Ably will ask you to verify your email address.

 

I see/don’t see a banner at the top of the page after I log into Ably.

While your account remains unverified, you will see a banner reminding you to take the steps to validate your email address with Ably. 

If you do not see the banner, your email address has been verified.

I’m already an Ably user; what will happen if I don’t verify my email address?

While your email address is unverified, you will still be able to use the Ably Platform. However, without a verified email account you will not be able to invite new users to Ably. Additionally you will not be able to modify your two-factor authentication settings. Two-factor authentication will continue to function normally even if your email address has not been verified. 

 

Is there a time frame for verifying my email address? 

There is currently no time frame for current Ably users to verify their account. For new users, it is necessary to complete the verification process before gaining access to the product and dashboard.

 

What if I use Single Sign On via SAML or Heroku to log into Ably? 

No action is required on your part. All current and new users who authenticate to Ably through Single Sign-On will have verified email addresses.
