Migrating to Ably from an existing service
What does it mean if I see 'Channel Region Inactive' in my logs on the Dev Console?
This is perfectly normal and expected behaviour. When channels become active they are activated in different regions globally, according to where the clients exist, and other placement rules within the Ably system. The dev console saying that a channel is no longer active in a region is a normal event, indicating that the channel no longer has any clients in that region, or is shutting down altogether.
The different Channel Lifecycle Events are explained in more detail here: https://ably.com/docs/metadata-stats/metadata/subscribe#channel-lifecycle
