What happens if I exceed my max connection creation rate?
Some connections will be refused and the client will receive a 429 error. As with other 4xx errors, the client will not retry by default. In this scenario, you should get the client to reattempt connection.
If this is a regular occurrence then you should consider increasing your peak connections to increase the creation rate limit as per the limits calculator. Please see our pricing page to change this on your package.
- For Committed Use customers, please contact your Account Executive or Customer Success Manager to pre-provision an increased rate if you are having an event.
- For PAYG customers, your configuration and limits can not be changed. Please contact support@ably.com for assistance migrating to a PAYG plan
